“Liquid mango smoothie! I love this hop.”

Great hops take time. 7-10 years, in fact. But even way back then, when we first caught that incredible scent of mango and peach and orange, we knew that experimental hop HBC 586 c.v. was something special. So, when we shared it with brewers for early trials and experimentation, we were excited to hear we weren’t alone in that assessment.

“The first time we tried a beer with HBC 586 c.v. was at the HAAS exhibit during hop selection in Yakima,” recalled Michelle DeLuca, Brand Director for Equilibrium Brewery. “Since then, and brewing with it here at home, we’ve been hooked. Mango, mango, and even more mango for days has made this a great addition to our hoppy offerings.”

With production ramped up, this tropical wonder is finally available for commercial brewing, and the newly named Krush™ HBC 586 c.v. is out to win the hearts of beer lovers everywhere.

“We’re big fans of Krush here at Equilibrium,” said Ryan McNally, Head Brewer of the Middletown, New York-based brewery. “I get a fruit medley with it. Strong mango aroma and flavor along with assorted citrus and a hint of guava.”

Krush is like your favorite parfait or a forkful of fresh fruit salad—bright, refreshing, tropical, slightly resinous, and delicious. Here at the HAAS Innovations Brewery, we’ve tried in many styles and in many combinations, and have yet to find one that doesn’t work beautifully.

“The thing I always tell brewers is that Krush is like the best fruit salad they’ve ever had,” said Jeff Dailey, Sensory Manager at HAAS, and part of our Brewing Solutions Team. “Krush presents these ripe tropical fruits like mango and guava, as well as rich stone fruits like peach. Its bouquet is supported by aromas of fresh-sliced navel oranges and mixed berries, which produces excellent outcomes across all styles and in combination with almost any other hop variety.” Jeff continued, “We think its intensity of flavor and versatility is truly unique, and it makes Krush an excellent addition to just about any recipe.”

“Krush HBC 586 c.v. is the next big hop that brewers can lean on,” said Brad Benson, Head Brewer/Co-owner of Stoup Brewing. “It’s a bold hop that can stand on its own, but also plays well with others. It’s great in the whirlpool, but really shines in dry hop.”

It seems every brewer we talked to raved about Krush’s pairing abilities.

“It stands out not only by its rich and sweet tropical fruit and citrus qualities, but its ability to play well with other hops, acting as a unifying force as well as amplifying the voice of others,” noted Andrew Rose, Director of Brewery Operations at Alvarado Street Brewery.

“It pairs really well with most other fruit-forward hops,” said McNally. “A Citra® and Krush combo is killer. We just put out a collab beer with Citra, Krush, and Eclipse® that I thought came out amazing.”

But ultimately, Krush’s unique flavor profile was the true stand out. Peter Oates, Brewmaster and Co-Founder of Equilibrium, summed it up best, saying “Liquid mango smoothie! I love this hop.”
