Irrigation and Fertigation Specialist

The person in this position is responsible to support farm irrigation and fertigation programs, soil moisture monitoring, and supervise assigned crews. From our farm fields to the glass, everything we do is to help brew great beer. This position is designed to help maximize the production of our farms.

Essential functions/majority of time spent on:
• Coordinate watering and fertigation schedules
• Integrate soil moisture monitoring, and current irrigation information to develop effective crop need-based irrigation methods
• Implement electronic water flow monitoring, timer based and/or radio valve controls
• Develop and maintain accurate electronic record-keeping
• Manage irrigation stations, suggest improvements to infrastructure, and lead implementation of improvements
Requirements/conditions of employment:
• Must be able to pass a background check and preemployment drug screen.
• Must be able to work the scheduled 40 hours workweek with overtime during the growing season.
• Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.

Preferred qualifications:
• Associates degree or higher irrigation management and/or agronomy, or equivalent
• 2+ years fertigation/irrigation experience with drip system management
• Experience with irrigation management systems and software
• Able to supervise multiple work crews simultaneously
• Able to train employees in all phases of irrigation and fertigation of crops

QC Manager

The person in this position is responsible for the development and implementation of all systems and programs related to quality control for the Haas Innovations Center and U.S. based laboratories. The Quality Assurance Manager assists in the development and maintenance of quality management systems/software (ISO, food safety, sustainability, business continuity, etc.) and provides analytical and technical support company-wide to ensure the quality of all products sold.
This position is crucial to successful operations and therefore requires a high degree of latitude and flexibility. Working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional night and weekend work, as well as travel, may be required, when special circumstances exist.
Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (and random drug screens once employed).
Required qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field
· Supervisory experience
· Knowledge of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) schemes, i.e. SQF, BRC, FSSC, GLOBALG.A.P. and Good Manufacturing Practices (including hazard analysis, critical control points, and food safety quality)
· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
· Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.)
· Experience identifying the root cause of an issue to get beyond treating symptoms
Preferred qualifications:
· Experience in the hop industry
· Advanced degree in a related field
· Supervisory experience in a food manufacturing environment
· Training in ISO Quality Management Systems

Assistant Marketing Manager

The John I. Haas Assistant Marketing Manager will work closely with the VP of Sales and Marketing to develop and execute marketing strategies and marketing plans.

This position balances strategic direction and oversight with direct development and implementation of marketing campaigns and promotions, coordinating cross-functional project teams, and deriving insights from analysis to build customer relationships and improve our organization or brand’s market position and impact. This role also supports in-house and agency marketing efforts by analyzing customer and marketing research materials, assessing the impact of marketing programs, and developing innovative campaigns to drive brand and product recognition and growth

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop Marketing Strategies and Marketing Plans

One of the primary duties of this position is to develop marketing strategies in collaboration with the VP of Sales and Marketing and other senior business leaders. This position will work closely with sales, brewing solutions, sales administration, supply chain, finance and other organizational resources to develop ideas to promote our products and our organizational brand.

Direct Marketing and Promotional Campaigns

The Associate Marketing Manager will direct promotional and marketing campaigns across a variety of media types and outlets. This position will work with external agency partners to develop online ads or direct the development of branded content on the web or in print. This position will monitor and oversee these campaigns from inception to completion, ensuring that team members consistently meet deliverables and timelines.

Analyze Market, Customer and Competitor Research

Another major part of this role is to analyze market and customer research to derive insights to drive new marketing efforts. In this aspect of the role, this position will use a variety of strategies to gather and interpret information to improve marketing efforts. For example, they may conduct customer surveys or interview to assess customer needs .and the effectiveness of our solutions. As well, this position will monitor competitor activities and strategies.

Monitor Portfolio Performance and Budgets

This position will develop, monitor and report product & service portfolio results and budgets. Responsibilities include recommending product and service portfolio strategies, pricing and promotion recommendations and recommend marketing activities and expenditures. This position also monitors resource utilization and expenses to ensure that they remain on budget.

Assistant Marketing Manager Skills and Qualifications

  • Project management skills – This position needs to effectively manage workflows and deliverables for marketing campaigns, so a background in project management is essential
  • Strategic planning – This position involves critical strategic thinking and experience to develop and successfully implement marketing and promotional campaigns
  • Team coordination – This position works closely with sales, brewing solutions, R&D, operations, legal, supply chain and other organizational personnel, so they need experience coordinating, facilitating and motivating teams to successfully complete projects
  • Presentation skills – This position will routinely present ideas and reports to business leaders and organizational team members, so they need excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Communication skills – this role requires frequent written and verbal communications that engages senior business leaders, customers and cross-functional team members.
  • Analytical skills – because this positions conducts market, company, customer and competitor assessments, the position requires excellent analytical and data interpretation skill

Assistant Marketing Manager Education and Training

  • Education requirement – a bachelor’s degree in business and/or marketing is required. An MBA in marketing is strongly preferred.
  • Work experience – a minimum of 5 years experience in marketing or sales is required.

Research Scientist

Research Scientist Overview

John I. Haas, Inc., the leading supplier of hops and advanced hop products for the brewing industry, is currently seeking a highly talented Research Scientist to join our Innovations team. The successful candidate will serve in a research and development role by planning, designing, and independently conducting experiments and associated research activities directed toward identified, strategic business opportunities. Specific job functions will include:

  • Development of innovative new hop and hop-based products from ideation to commercialization through laboratory experimentation, pilot scale-up, and commercial trials
  • Improvement of existing Barth-Haas Group products through cost reductions, yield increases, new applications, and/or improvement of best practices
  • Support of high-priority research projects through rigorous and creative experimentation in a team environment, and
  • Utilization of advanced relationship skills to establish positive interactions with diverse stakeholders such as customers, vendors, and toll manufacturers in order to advance specific projects in a collaborative fashion. The position will involve overseeing the successful transition of promising research into brewing application trials and through to commercialization. A track record of developing intellectual property and publishing research contributions in scientific journals is highly desirable.

Requirements:

Brewing Solutions Specialist South America (SA)

Position Summary:

The Brewing Solutions Specialist will operate the 15-gallon brewery, and manage/execute the brewing trials using new hops and hop products. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for managing and supporting technical services activities in the Latin America Region, including sales support in product commercialization and management, external publications and presentations, and development of technical literature. Will work with the customers on hop products use, process optimization, beer formulation, and sensory evaluations. Will accompany sales representatives and company executives on customer visits to provide training, consulting, assisting with product development, and identifying new commercial opportunities.

Travel is involved as well as special projects, customer activities requires occasional working during evening hours and weekends.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in brewing, food science, biology, or related field.
  2. Brewing training, a passion for beer and flavors. Demonstrated deep understanding of brewing industry.
  3. 7+ years of experience in brewing or fermentations.

Associate Scientist

Overview

John I. Haas, Inc., the leading supplier of hops and advanced hop products for the brewing industry, is currently seeking a highly talented Associate Scientist to join our Innovations team. The successful candidate will serve a critical role to support the research and development of innovative new hop and hop-based products. Specific job functions will include:

  • Independently performing R&D trials on new hop products and processes under minimal supervision and/or in teams
  • Maintaining thorough, accurate, and orderly records for all relevant activities, including laboratory and pilot plant trials
  • Collaborating cross-functionally for the purpose of commercializing new products and implementing process improvements
  • Work up of experimental/trial data and communication of results to appropriate stakeholders
  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory and pilot plant equipment and instruments in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion, and
  • Support of the overall innovations department by updating, managing, and maintaining electronic project notebooks, servers, and SharePoint portals.This is a hands-on position that involves running lab- to pilot-scale experiments/trials, instrumental analysis, and working collaboratively across different functional areas.

Associate Sensory Scientist

We are seeking a motivated team member to assist in the execution of our sensory panel focused on the evaluation of hops, hop products, and hoppy beers. The Associate Sensory Scientist will report to the Sensory Scientist. This is a hands-on position that involves sample preparation, panel set up, cleaning, and maintaining sensory facilities. In addition, this position requires using computer software for test building, data collection, data analysis, and report writing. This person will communicate frequently with sensory panelists and members of the Brewing, Breeding, and R&D departments.

A strong candidate is experienced in conducting sensory panels, has a passion for hops and beer, pays close attention to detail, is self-motivated, has good communication, and collaborates effectively with others.

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. B.S. in Food Science or related field
  2. 1-3 years of Sensory Panel work experience
  3. 1 year of Compusense Cloud software experience
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

Administrative Assistant - Pellet Plant

John I. Haas is seeking an outgoing, customer-service oriented person to provide administrative assistance to our Pellet Plant Manager. Primary responsibilities include production data entry and reporting, and other office/clerical duties. Candidates must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8-5, and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Required Qualifications include:

  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal, verbal, and written
  • Experience working in an office setting following office procedures and using standard office equipment (copiers, fax machines, multi-line telephones)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and be flexible
  • Preferred Qualifications include:
